GENERAL INFORMATION & SPECIFICATIONS

Nu-WoolŽ Insulation Keeps The Heat Where It Belongs

What is Nu-WoolŽ Insulation?
Nu-WoolŽ Insulation is an energy-saving cellulose insulation made from recycled newspapers. Nu-WoolŽ Insulation, with its superior thermal and air infiltration properties, is installed in both attics and walls of residential and commercial buildings. This environmentally friendly, "green" insulation provides up to 40%* savings on energy bills when compared to conventional insulation materials. Nu-WoolŽ Insulation also contains an E.P.A. registered fungicide, making it resistant to the growth of mold.

What is the Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ System?
The Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ system is a spray-in-place cellulose insulation product that is applied to the wall cavities of new construction. Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ is an insulation product with a more effective R-value, made by Nu-WoolŽ Company, Inc., a business with over 50 years of proven performance standards.

How is Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ different from other insulation materials?
Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ is sprayed in place, eliminating the voids and air pockets common with conventional insulation materials. Density, or weight per cubic foot, which is important in reducing air infiltration and increasing "Effective R-value", is more consistent with the Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ system. The contractor and the customer can actually see the insulation in place and know that all of the areas in a wall are insulated.

How does Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ compare in performance to other insulation products?
Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ is a premium insulation system. Homeowners, builders, and architects choose Nu-WoolŽ for energy savings, sound control, and overall comfort. The installers of the WALLSEALŽ system are factory trained and certified professionals, who are equipped with specialized machines designed for this application. The increased efficiency of the Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ system, along with Nu-WoolŽ Insulation in the attic, saves homeowners as much as 40%* on heating and cooling costs.

Most manufacturers of insulation focus all of their efforts on producing and selling their insulation products. Their support ends once the product is sold. Nu-WoolŽ Company, Inc. is different. In addition to producing a quality product, Nu-WoolŽ provides its dealers with product, installation equipment, sales and technical support, and training that is unmatched in the insulation industry.

Factory Trained & Certified Installers
Nu-WoolŽ provides extensive training for both new and existing Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ dealers. Using both its state-of-the-art factory training center and in-the-field training, Nu-Wool'sŽ training and contractor certification programs ensure that Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ dealers have the best training in the industry.

In addition, Nu-WoolŽ holds seminars on a continuing basis for its dealers as well as utility companies, energy-related conferences, trade groups, architects, builders and homeowners. Nu-WoolŽ also offers accredited continuing education for building officials and architects.

State-of-the-Art Equipment
Nu-WoolŽ is the only insulation manufacturer that also engineers, assembles, and sells its own line of installation equipment. With over 50 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing cellulose insulation, Nu-WoolŽ knows better than anyone the characteristics of its product. Nu-WoolŽ has engineered its installation equipment to maximize the performance characteristics of its insulation products.

CSI Specifications.

1. General

  • This specification provides information regarding the pneumatic application of Nu-WoolŽ Cellulose Insulation in attics and walls. Nu-WoolŽ Insulation (attics and floors) and Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ Insulation (walls) provide superior R-value (resistance to heat flow) for thermal applications, sound control for acoustical treatments, and fire control in attics, floors and walls of residential and commercial construction.

2. Materials

  • Cellulose Insulation. Nu-WoolŽ Cellulose Insulation is manufactured from recycled newspapers. Each pound of Nu-WoolŽ Insulation and Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ Insulation contains at least 85% paper fiber content. The fibers are treated with boric acid and sodium polyborate to create permanent flame resistance. The additives are non-toxic, non-corrosive, will not irritate normal skin, will not give off odor during or after installation, will not attract vermin or insects and will not adversely affect other building materials.
  • Thermal Performance. Nu-WoolŽ Cellulose Insulation resists the flow of heat. The R-value is 3.8 per inch so, air infiltration through the material is limited because of the density of the material and the method used to install it.
  • Sound Control. The density of Nu-WoolŽ Insulation provides significant noise reduction in walls, ceilings, and floors. Wall assemblies insulated with Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ Insulation are tested at Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories. STC ratings are available upon request.
  • Fire Resistance. Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ Insulation has been successfully tested in load-bearing, two-hour firewall tests (ASTM E-119) using 3 and 4 layers of 5/8" type X drywall at Underwriters Laboratories (UL Designs U360 and U369). Nu-WoolŽ WALLSEALŽ Insulation is also approved for use in 44 other UL-approved firewall designs.
